Other types of vehicle

Before overtaking a large vehicle on a single carriageway, what must you be sure of?

  • That you have enough room to complete the manoeuvre, as it takes longer
    Correct
  • That the vehicle is doing exactly 30 mph
  • That you can finish within two seconds
  • That another car is overtaking too

Why?

Rule 164 of The Highway Code warns that it takes longer to pass a large vehicle. Make sure you have enough clear road to complete the overtake before you commit, and if in doubt, do not overtake.
