Road and traffic signs
There are white zig-zag lines on the road on each side of a pedestrian crossing. What do they mean?
- You may park here for a short time
- You must not park or overtake in this areaCorrect

Why?
The zig-zag lines mark the controlled area of a pedestrian crossing. Rule 191 of The Highway Code says you must not park on them and you must not overtake the vehicle nearest the crossing. This keeps the crossing clear so drivers and pedestrians can see each other.
