Road and traffic signs

Turn left ahead

What does this sign tell you to do?

  • Turn left ahead
    Correct
  • Keep to the left of the road
  • No left turn
  • A bend to the left is coming

Why?

This is a blue circular sign, and blue circles give a mandatory instruction — something you must do. The white arrow bending left means you must turn left ahead. It is different from a red-ringed 'no left turn' or a triangular 'bend' warning. Rule 109 of The Highway Code says you must obey all signs giving orders.
