Vulnerable road users

A bus at a stop is signalling to move off. What should you do?

  • Speed up so you pass before it moves
  • Expect the bus to wait for all the traffic to clear
  • Give way and let it pull out when you can do so safely
    Correct
  • Sound your horn to tell it to stay put

Why?

Rule 223 of The Highway Code says you should give priority to buses signalling to pull away from a stop, when you can do so safely. Watch also for people getting off.
