Hazard awareness
You are approaching a school. Amber lights are flashing beneath the school warning sign. What must you do?
- Slow down and be ready to stop, as children may be crossingCorrect
- Sound your horn to warn any children nearby
- Continue at the same speed if you see no children
- Stop completely and wait for the lights to stop flashing
Why?
Rule 208 of The Highway Code says flashing amber lights outside a school warn that children may be crossing, so reduce your speed and be prepared to stop. Watch out for a school crossing patrol and drive slowly until you are well past.
