Brake very gently and in good time to keep control

Brake hard and late to test the grip
Pump the brakes quickly while turning
Avoid braking and use the handbrake instead

Why?

Rule 231 of The Highway Code says on icy roads drive extremely carefully, using the highest gear you can and braking gently and progressively on the straight, so you do not lose grip and skid.
