Other types of vehicle
You're overtaking a motorcyclist on a windy day. Why should you leave extra room?
- Motorcyclists ride faster than cars in windy weather
- A gust of wind can suddenly blow the rider off courseCorrect
- It reduces your own fuel consumption
- It is only a courtesy, not a safety issue
Why?
Rule 232 of The Highway Code warns that motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders can be blown badly off course by a sudden gust of wind, especially when overtaking a large vehicle or passing gaps between buildings. Give them plenty of room, more than you would in calm conditions.
