What do double yellow lines along the edge of the road mean?

  • No waiting at any time
    Correct
  • Waiting allowed for up to one hour
  • Loading only, parking not allowed
  • Free parking after 6 pm

Why?

Double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time, as explained in Rule 238 of The Highway Code. This applies even where there are no upright time plates.
