Rules of the road

You are approaching a pedestrian crossing and a car in front has stopped for people to cross. What must you not do?

  • Wait behind the stopped car
  • Check your mirrors
  • Get ready to stop
  • Overtake the vehicle nearest the crossing
    Correct

Why?

Rule 191 of The Highway Code says you must not overtake the moving vehicle nearest a pedestrian crossing, or the leading vehicle that has stopped to let people cross, because it can hide pedestrians from you.
