Rules of the road

You are waiting to pull out of a minor road at a T-junction. Who normally has priority?

  • Traffic already on the main road
    Correct
  • You, because you arrived first
  • Whichever vehicle is the larger one
  • Traffic turning left into your road

Why?

At a T-junction the traffic already on the main road (the through road) normally has priority. Rule 172 of The Highway Code says you must give way at the junction lines and only emerge when there is a safe gap.
