Rules of the road

You reach a yellow box junction and want to go straight ahead. When may you enter the box?

  • Whenever the traffic lights are green
  • As long as you can fit inside the box
  • Whenever there is no camera watching
  • Only when your exit road is clear
    Correct

Why?

A box junction has criss-cross yellow lines. Rule 174 of The Highway Code says you must not enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear, so you do not block the junction.
