Rules of the road

You are about to turn right into a side road. Where should you position your car before turning?

  • Well over to the left
  • Just left of the middle of the road
    Correct
  • Tight against the left kerb
  • As far right as the oncoming lane

Why?

Before turning right into a side road, Rule 179 of The Highway Code says to position your vehicle just left of the middle of the road, so following and oncoming traffic can pass and your intention is clear.
