Rules of the road

You are about to enter a one-way street. Why might buses or cycles be coming towards you?

  • They are breaking the law
  • One-way rules never apply to them
  • There may be a contraflow lane for buses and cycles
    Correct
  • They have probably taken a wrong turn

Why?

A one-way street may have a contraflow lane set aside for buses or cycles, so they can legally travel towards you. Rule 143 of The Highway Code warns drivers to watch for this.
