Rules of the road

You see short yellow marks painted on the kerb, with an upright sign nearby. What do they usually mean?

  • Parking is free at all times
  • It is a bus boarding point
  • Loading or unloading is restricted at the times shown
    Correct
  • You may wait there for up to two hours

Why?

Yellow marks on the kerb, together with an upright sign, show that loading and unloading is restricted during the times stated. Rule 247 of The Highway Code says you must not load or unload where these markings and signs apply.
