You are turning right onto a dual carriageway but the central reservation is too narrow for your car. What should you do?

  • Wait until you can cross both carriageways in one go when it is clear
    Correct
  • Wait in the central reservation anyway
  • Turn left instead and make a U-turn later
  • Straddle the central reservation and edge across

Why?

Rule 173 of The Highway Code says that if the central reservation of a dual carriageway is too narrow for your vehicle, you must wait until you can cross both carriageways in one go.
