Rules of the road

How close to a junction are you normally allowed to park?

  • Right up to the corner
  • Within about 5 metres
  • No closer than 10 metres (32 feet), unless in a marked bay
    Correct
  • Within two car lengths

Why?

Rule 243 of The Highway Code says you must not stop or park opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space. This keeps the junction clear and protects visibility.
