Why should you give motorcyclists and cyclists plenty of room when following or passing them?

  • They may swerve suddenly to avoid a pothole or drain

  • They are required to ride in the middle of the lane
  • They can stop far more quickly than a car
  • They must always let you pass on the left

Why?

Rule 213 of The Highway Code explains that motorcyclists and cyclists may need to swerve suddenly to avoid uneven surfaces, potholes or drains. Allow them plenty of room.
