While driving, your accelerator pedal sticks and the engine keeps racing. What should you do?
أثناء القيادة، علِقت دوّاسة الوقود (accelerator) وظلّ المحرك يدور بسرعة عالية. ماذا يجب أن تفعل؟
- Switch off the engine at once, even at speedأطفئ المحرك فوراً، حتى وأنت مسرع
- Pump the accelerator hard until it frees itselfاضغط دوّاسة الوقود بقوة حتى تتحرّر
- Select neutral and brake to a safe stop, then switch off the engineانقل ناقل الحركة إلى الوضع المحايد (neutral) واكبح حتى تتوقّف بأمان، ثم أطفئ المحركإجابة صحيحة
- Carry on to your destination and mention it laterواصل إلى وجهتك واذكر الأمر لاحقاً
لماذا؟
يذكر دليل «القيادة: المهارات الأساسية» (DES) أنه إذا علِقت دوّاسة الوقود فانقل ناقل الحركة إلى الوضع المحايد (neutral) أو اضغط القابض (clutch) حتى يتوقّف المحرك عن تحريك العجلات، ثم اكبح حتى تتوقّف بأمان وأطفئ المحرك. فإطفاء المحرك وأنت مسرع قد يُقفل المقود، لذا لا تفعل ذلك أولاً.
The DVSA guide Driving – the essential skills says that if your accelerator sticks you should select neutral, or press the clutch, so the engine stops driving the wheels, then brake to a safe stop and switch off. Turning the engine off while moving at speed can lock the steering, so don't do that first.
