Your footbrake suddenly stops working as you drive. What is the best way to slow down and stop?
توقّفت الفرامل (footbrake) عن العمل فجأة أثناء القيادة. ما أفضل طريقة لإبطاء السيارة وإيقافها؟
- Steer off the road into a wall as fast as possibleوجّه السيارة نحو جدار بأقصى سرعة

لماذا؟
ينصح دليل «القيادة: المهارات الأساسية» (DES) بأنه إذا تعطّلت فراملك فانزل إلى غيار أخفض لتستفيد من كبح المحرك (engine braking)، واضغط الفرامل بشكل متكرّر تحسّباً لعودتها، واستخدم فرملة اليد (handbrake) برفق وتدريجياً. وابحث عن مخرج آمن أو طريق صاعد يساعدك على التوقّف.
Driving – the essential skills advises that if your brakes fail you should change down to a lower gear so engine braking slows the car, pump the footbrake in case it recovers, and apply the parking (hand) brake gently and progressively. Look for an escape route or an uphill road to help you stop.
