How can carrying a heavy load on a roof rack affect your car?
كيف يمكن أن يؤثّر حمل حمولة ثقيلة على حمّالة السقف (roof rack) في سيارتك؟
- It lowers the centre of gravity and improves gripيخفض مركز الثقل ويحسّن التماسك
- It makes the car less stable and increases stopping distanceيجعل السيارة أقل ثباتاً ويزيد مسافة التوقّفإجابة صحيحة

لماذا؟
توجد حمولة السقف في مكان مرتفع، ما يرفع مركز ثقل السيارة (centre of gravity) ويجعلها أقل ثباتاً، خاصة في المنعطفات والرياح الجانبية. كما يزيد ذلك مقاومة الهواء، فتستهلك السيارة وقوداً أكثر وتحتاج إلى مسافة أطول للتوقّف (stopping distance). وتذكّرك القاعدة 98 من قانون الطريق بعدم تحميل المركبة فوق طاقتها.
A load on the roof sits high up, which raises the car's centre of gravity and makes it less stable, especially in corners and crosswinds. It also increases wind resistance, so the car uses more fuel and needs a longer distance to stop. Rule 98 of The Highway Code reminds you not to overload the vehicle.
