Alertness
You are waiting at a junction and a vehicle approaching from the right is signalling left. What should you do?
- Pull out at once, as it is clearly turning
- Wait and make sure it is actually turning before you goCorrect
- Flash your lights to tell it to turn
- Move out slowly to encourage it to turn
Why?
A signal can be left on by mistake, or the driver may change their mind, so acting on it too soon is dangerous. Rule 170 of The Highway Code says you should not assume that a vehicle signalling left will actually turn, so wait and make sure before you emerge.
