You are approaching a large roundabout with several lanes. How do you choose the correct lane?

  • Always stay in the left-hand lane
  • Use the road signs and lane markings to pick your lane in good time

  • Choose the fastest-moving lane
  • Wait until you reach the roundabout, then decide

Why?

Getting into the right lane early avoids sudden lane changes that surprise other drivers. Rule 184 of The Highway Code says that on approaching a roundabout you should take notice of and act on all the information available, including signs and lane markings, and decide as early as possible which exit you need.
