Alertness

You approach a crossroads in the countryside that has no road signs or markings. Who has priority?

  • Traffic on the wider of the two roads
  • No one has priority, so approach with great care
    Correct
  • You do, if you arrived first
  • Traffic turning right

Why?

At an unmarked crossroads there is no rule that gives anyone the right to go first, so you cannot assume other drivers will stop. Rule 146 of The Highway Code says you should be aware of unmarked junctions where nobody has priority, and drive defensively.
