Alertness
Before you set off on a journey, why should you adjust your seat, head restraint and mirrors?
- To make the car look tidy
- Only the mirrors matter for safety
- For comfort, full control and the best possible viewCorrect
- You should adjust them while driving instead
Why?
You cannot observe or control the car properly if you are badly seated or your mirrors are wrong, and adjusting them on the move is a dangerous distraction. Rule 97 of The Highway Code says that before setting off you should ensure your seat and mirrors are adjusted correctly and your head restraint is properly positioned.
