Alertness
You are driving a high-sided van with no rear side windows. What does this mean for your observation?
- You can rely on the rear-view mirror as normal
- You have fewer blind spots than a car
- You do not need to check over your shoulder
- You have larger blind spots, so check your door mirrors and look carefullyCorrect
Why?
A van's solid sides create bigger areas you cannot see than in a car. Rule 161 of The Highway Code reminds you that mirrors do not cover all areas and there will be blind spots, so with a van you must take extra care to check your mirrors and look round before moving.
