Hazard awareness

It is very windy and you are about to pass a cyclist. What should you do?

  • Pass as close as possible to block the wind
  • Sound your horn to move them onto the pavement
  • Expect no change, as wind does not affect cyclists
  • Give them extra room, as the wind may blow them off course
    Correct

Why?

Rule 232 of The Highway Code says strong gusts can blow cyclists and motorcyclists sideways into your path, so give them plenty of room when you pass in windy weather.
