Hazard awareness

Visibility has dropped in fog so you cannot see more than 100 metres. What must you do?

  • Use only your sidelights
  • Switch on your headlights
    Correct
  • Follow the tail lights of the car in front closely
  • Turn off all your lights to avoid dazzle

Why?

Rule 226 of The Highway Code says you must use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see more than 100 metres. This helps you see and helps others see you.
