Motorway rules
You realise you are about to miss your exit on the motorway. What must you never do?
- Carry on to the next exit and turn around there
- Signal and leave at the following junction
- Stay calm and keep to your lane
- Reverse along the carriageway to reach the slip roadCorrect
Why?
Reversing on a motorway puts you head-on with fast traffic that does not expect it. Rule 263 of The Highway Code says you must never reverse, cross the central reservation, or drive against the traffic. If you miss your exit, carry on to the next one.
