Other types of vehicle

You are following a slow tractor on a country road with a bend ahead. What should you do?

  • Overtake quickly on the bend
  • Stay back and be patient until you can see it is safe to overtake
    Correct
  • Drive very close so it speeds up
  • Sound your horn until the driver pulls over

Why?

Agricultural vehicles are slow and may be wide, and overtaking on a bend where you cannot see ahead is dangerous. Rule 169 of The Highway Code reminds slow drivers to let queues pass, but you must still wait patiently and only overtake when you can see the road is clear and safe.
