Other types of vehicle

A long vehicle in front of you at a roundabout is taking up part of another lane. Why?

  • The driver is lost and confused
  • It may need to straddle lanes because of its length, so give it room
    Correct
  • It is trying to block you deliberately
  • Long vehicles are banned from roundabouts

Why?

Rule 187 of The Highway Code warns that long vehicles, including those towing trailers, might take a different course or straddle lanes approaching or on a roundabout because of their length. Watch their signals and give them plenty of room.
