Two cyclists ahead are riding side by side. You want to overtake. What should you do?

  • Beep and drive between them
  • Overtake at once with little room
  • Shout at them to ride in single file
  • Be patient and overtake only when there is enough room and it is safe
    Correct

Why?

Rule 213 of The Highway Code recognises that it can be safer for cyclists to ride two abreast, for example in groups or with children. Wait patiently and give them at least as much room as a car when you overtake.
