Road and traffic signs
The white line down the centre of the road gets longer and the gaps get shorter. What is this telling you?
- There is a hazard ahead, so do not overtake unless the road is clearCorrect
- The road is about to become one-way
- You have reached a bus lane
- You may now increase your speed
Why?
This is a hazard warning line. Rule 127 of The Highway Code says that when the centre line lengthens and the gaps shorten it is warning you of a hazard ahead, such as a bend or junction. Do not cross it unless you can clearly see the road ahead is safe.
