Road and traffic signs
The white line down the centre of the road has short marks with long gaps between them. What does this tell you?
- It is an ordinary centre line marking the middle of the roadCorrect
- It is a hazard warning line — do not overtake
- It is a stop line for a junction
- It marks the edge of the road
Why?
Rule 127 of The Highway Code says a centre line with short marks and long gaps is the ordinary line dividing the two sides of the road. When the marks get longer and the gaps shorter, it becomes a hazard warning line telling you of danger ahead.
