Your car has broken down on an ordinary road. Where should you place a warning triangle?

Why?

A triangle gives drivers time to slow down before they reach your car. Rule 274 of The Highway Code says put a warning triangle on the road at least 45 metres (147 feet) behind your broken-down vehicle on the same side, but never use one on a motorway.
