Safety and your vehicle

There is a chip or crack in the windscreen right in front of the driver. What should you do?

  • Cover it with a sticker and keep driving
  • Leave it, as glass damage never matters
  • Have it repaired, as it can block your view and get worse
    Correct
  • Spray water on it to hide the crack

Why?

Damage in the driver's line of sight can obstruct your view and may spread across the screen. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says windscreens must be kept clear and free from obstructions to vision, so have the damage repaired promptly.
