Safety and your vehicle

A tyre pressure warning light appears on your dashboard. What should you do?

  • Ignore it, as tyre pressures never change
  • Cover the light so it stops showing
  • Check the tyre pressures and put them right as soon as you can
    Correct
  • Let more air out of all the tyres

Why?

This light warns that one or more tyres may be losing pressure, which affects grip, braking and fuel use. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says tyres must be correctly inflated, so check the pressures when the tyres are cold and correct them as soon as you can.
