When are you allowed to use your hazard warning lights while driving?
- To thank another driver who has let you through
- When you park on a double yellow line for a short time
- On a motorway or dual carriageway, to warn traffic behind of a hazard aheadCorrect
- Whenever it is raining heavily and hard to see
Why?
Hazard warning lights are a warning, not an excuse to park where you should not. Rule 116 of The Highway Code says you may use them while moving only on a motorway or unrestricted dual carriageway to warn drivers behind of a hazard or queue ahead. Otherwise use them only when stopped and causing an obstruction.
