When you turn the ignition on, several warning lights come on. What should normally happen next?
- They should all stay on while you drive
- They should flash on and off continuously
- The engine should refuse to start until you press them
- They should go out when the engine starts, apart from the handbrake lightCorrect
Why?
The lights do a self-check when you switch on. Annex 6 of The Highway Code explains that these warning lights come on with the ignition but should go out once the engine is running, except the handbrake (parking brake) warning light; a light that stays on points to a fault.
