Before starting a journey, what should you do about your vehicle's lights?

  • Check only the headlights, as the others are less important
  • Assume they work if they worked yesterday
  • Check them only at night
  • Check that headlights, brake lights, indicators and number plate light all work
    Correct

Why?

Other drivers rely on your lights to see you and read your intentions. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says lights and indicators must be working, so check all of them, including brake lights and the number plate light, before you set off, asking someone to help you see the brake lights.
