Safety and your vehicle
A warning light on your dashboard comes on while you are driving. What should you do?
- Ignore it, as warning lights often come on for no reason
- Cover it with tape so it does not distract you
- Find out what it means and act on it, as it may warn of a faultCorrect
- Keep driving fast to reach home before the car stops
Why?
Warning lights are there to tell you something is wrong. Annex 6 of The Highway Code says you should understand the warning displays on your instrument panel and not ignore them, as they could show a dangerous fault developing; check the handbook and stop safely if needed.
