You need to make a phone call while you're driving. What should you do?

Make the call quickly while driving slowly
Use the phone only while waiting at traffic lights
Hold the phone near the steering wheel so you can see the road
Stop in a safe and legal place before using the phone

Why?

It's illegal to hold a mobile phone while driving, and this includes when you're stopped at traffic lights or in traffic queues — you're still driving in the eyes of the law. Rule 149 of The Highway Code says you must exercise proper control of your vehicle at all times, so find a safe and legal place to stop first.
