Alertness

You want to emerge from a junction but parked vehicles block your view of the main road. What should you do?

  • Pull out quickly while there is a gap in the noise
  • Ease forward slowly until you can see, then decide
    Correct
  • Rely on other drivers to flash you out
  • Sound your horn and move out

Why?

You cannot judge a safe gap while your view is blocked, so you must improve your view before committing. Rule 170 of The Highway Code says that if your view at a junction is restricted by parked vehicles you should ease forward until you can see, because something might be approaching.
