Attitude

You are turning left into a side road and a pedestrian is waiting to cross that road. What should you do?

  • Turn quickly before the pedestrian steps out
  • Sound your horn to warn them to wait
  • Give way and let the pedestrian cross
    Correct
  • Carry on, as vehicles always have priority

Why?

Rule 170 says you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road into which you are turning; if they have started to cross, they have priority. Slow down and be ready to stop as you make the turn.
