Attitude

You reach the give-way line at a roundabout just as a car is coming round towards you from your right. Who has priority?

  • You do, because you arrived at the line first
  • Whoever sounds their horn to claim the gap
  • The car already on the roundabout from your right
    Correct
  • Neither, so edge out into its path to take your turn

Why?

Rule 185 of The Highway Code says that when you reach a roundabout you should give way to traffic on your right, unless signs, markings or lights tell you otherwise, and watch out for vehicles already on the roundabout. Reaching the line first does not give you priority.
