Thick fog means you cannot see more than about 100 metres ahead. What must you do with your lights?
- Use only your side lights to avoid glare
- Leave your lights off because it is daytime
- Switch on your headlights, as visibility is seriously reducedCorrect
- Use full beam to punch through the fog
Why?
Rule 226 of The Highway Code says you MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres. Full beam is not used in fog because it reflects back and dazzles you.
