Attitude

A driver ahead of you is hesitating at a busy junction, unsure when to pull out. What is the considerate thing to do?

  • Wait patiently and give them time to judge the gap
    Correct
  • Sound your horn to push them out into the traffic
  • Rev your engine and edge up close behind them
  • Flash your headlights repeatedly to hurry them along

Why?

Rule 112 of The Highway Code says the horn must not be used to show annoyance, and Rule 147 asks you to be patient. A hesitant driver may be nervous or unfamiliar with the junction, and pressuring them could push them into an unsafe move.

Highway Code rules 112, 147
