Essential documents

You are driving your UK-registered car abroad. What may you need to display on the vehicle?

  • A 'UK' sticker or 'UK' identifier
    Correct
  • A large red L plate
  • A copy of your MOT certificate in the window
  • A recent photograph of the driver

Why?

When driving abroad you usually need a 'UK' sticker, unless your number plate already shows a 'UK' identifier. This replaced the old 'GB' sticker in 2021. Correct documents and identifiers for driving are part of the rules in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
