Essential documents
You keep a registered car that you are not currently driving on a public road, but you have not made a SORN. What must be true?
- It needs no tax and no insurance at all
- It only needs a valid MOT
- It must be kept insured, unless you make a SORNCorrect
- It can stay uninsured for up to a year
Why?
Under continuous insurance enforcement, a registered vehicle must normally be kept insured even when parked, unless you have told the DVLA it is off the road by making a SORN. Insurance and vehicle tax are among the documents in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
