Essential documents
Your photocard licence is badly damaged and the details can no longer be read. What should you do?
- Keep using it exactly as normal
- Cover the damaged part with tape
- Write the missing details back on by hand
- Apply to the DVLA for a replacement licenceCorrect
Why?
A licence that is damaged or defaced so the details cannot be read must be replaced by applying to the DVLA. You must not alter or write on the licence yourself, as that makes it invalid. Keeping a valid licence is part of the rules in Annex 3 of The Highway Code.
