Essential documents
A police officer asks to see your documents, but you don't have them with you. What can you do?
- Refuse, since you're not required to carry documents
- Produce them at a police station within 7 daysCorrect
- Post copies to the officer within one month
- You'll automatically lose your licence
Why?
You don't have to carry your documents in the car, but if a police officer asks and you don't have them, Annex 3 of The Highway Code says you can produce your insurance, MOT certificate and driving licence at a police station of your choice within 7 days.
